The charity is governed by trustees who are supported by a wider management board. They meet monthly on the third Tuesday of every month. They also meet in the intervening Tuesdays at strategic subcommittees.

In December every year, we host an Annual General Meeting. This gives us an opportunity to look back on the year, as well as inviting people to come on board and become members.  Each year, members can vote people into the management board and into the trustee positions.

The Trustees appoint a paid manager to run the Centre and charity on their behalf with the support of a staff team. The majority of the staff are paid but we also have many volunteers, placements, and trainees.

History

The older, back part of the building was built in 1927 and started life as the very popular Embassy roller skate rink before closing in 1974. There was also a front entrance building that was where the garden and café now are but this was later demolished. When Cathays and Central Youth and Community Project (CCYCP) was set up as a charity by the community around 1978, the back building was partitioned into an independent Bingo Club on one side and Cathays Community Centre, managed by CCYCP on the other. Initially,  CCYCP was run by volunteers and soon the management committee secured funding for a full-time youth and community worker and part-time youth staff.  

In 1991 the Council  built a new building at the front that housed the advice centre, a café and meeting rooms.  In 1995 the Bingo Club went bankrupt and closed, and that side of the building was left by the Council to enter a state of disrepair. By the late 90s there were new activities and interests emerging mostly around a youth provision that included innovative work with young people with disabilities and the music rehearsal rooms that had been built and later in 2009 the front and back buildings were joined to make a new reception area. 

Today you will find that CCYCP manages a vibrant Community Centre that has an independent Café, Recording Studio, Bakery together with its own meeting room, two large halls, music rehearsal rooms, social space, and recording studio. It also operates a wide range of youth provisions and other community projects. We have a huge range of independent groups and classes that hire the space. The building is open to the community 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.
