Aubergine Café is a neurodivergent (ND) and LGBTQ+ owned community café, staffed entirely by neurodivergent adults serving plant-based food and drink. They offer a relaxed sensory environment and a sober venue for cultural events and gatherings.
Using lived experience as ND adults, Aubergine aim to create safe and inclusive spaces for multiply-marginalised neurodivergent people to work, learn skills, access culture and community, and allow customers and workers to exist as themselves without feeling the need to mask any part of their identity.
Aubergine Café aims to combat social isolation, facilitate community building among neurodivergent people in Wales, and provide an example of neurodivergent-inclusive working practices that can be easily replicated in other workplaces.
The café provides opportunities for paid employment as well as volunteering for autistic/ND adults. They also offer an accessible platform for autistic and neurodivergent culture, hosting a variety of arts activities such as art exhibitions, open mic nights and creative workshops delivered by neurodivergent artists.
“Think of us as your little ‘neuro quirky’ home away from home. Everyone is welcome.”
